POS Operator Arrested for Aiding Police Extortion in Edo

Goodluck Jaja, a POS operator, was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly facilitating extortion activities conducted by policemen in Benin City. The arrest occurred following numerous complaints from the public regarding harassment and illegal extortion by police officers posing as officials along the Teboga axis of Aduwawa.

The police, led by ASP Eno Ikoedem, reported that the suspects would intercept unsuspecting victims, forcibly convey them around the city, and compel them to withdraw money from POS operators. The investigation revealed a network that included dismissed police personnel and two drivers believed to be facilitating these operations.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Monday Agbonika, ordered a discreet intelligence-led operation that resulted in the breakthrough and subsequent arrest. The implicated officers are currently undergoing internal disciplinary procedures and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The police have urged victims to come forward to aid in prosecution and warned POS operators against facilitating illegal transactions.
