Edo Police Dismiss Five Officers for Extortion and Harassment

The Edo State Police Command has dismissed five officers due to allegations of extortion and harassment of residents. The officers were reportedly involved in a criminal syndicate that unlawfully stopped citizens, abducted them, and extorted money under duress.

The complaints prompted CP Mondai Agbonika to initiate a discreet intelligence-driven investigation, which revealed that the dismissed officers, including Goodluck Jaja, ASP Bonni Onajit, Inspector Ehubariem Wisdom, Inspector Arebam Godspower, Corporal Mordi Philip, Corporal Okon Elvi, Corporal Samuel Nicholas, and Corporal Etim Bright, were exploiting their positions to commit serious crimes. The police command has urged victims of such crimes to come forward to assist in ongoing investigations.

Additionally, the command warned that any police personnel or individuals in uniform found complicit in illegal activities would face arrest and prosecution. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the commitment to restoring public confidence in the police force.
