Shettima: Poverty No Longer an Excuse for Education

On Wednesday, Vice-President Kashim Shettima stated that under the Tinubu administration, poverty is no longer a barrier to education in Nigeria. He made this announcement during a meeting with the management team of the University of Abuja, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.

Shettima highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a crucial initiative that offers financial relief to children from poor backgrounds, covering tuition fees and providing monthly allowances. This scheme aims to ensure that students from less-privileged backgrounds can access tertiary education.

Shettima also noted Nigeria's progress towards sustainable economic development, citing improvements in sovereign credit ratings and macroeconomic reforms. He praised the leadership of Prof. Fawehinmi for overcoming past challenges at the University of Abuja and pledged federal support for the institution.

Prof. Fawehinmi commended Shettima for his contributions to the education sector and the growth of the Tinubu administration.
