Nigeria's Power Minister Advocates for Grid Resilience

On Tuesday, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe delivered a keynote address at the Middle East Energy 2026 Leadership Summit in Dubai, emphasizing the need for resilient electricity grids to be prioritized in global energy security planning. He stated that energy security should encompass not only hydrocarbon reserves but also the resilience of the entire energy system, including grid infrastructure and critical mineral supply chains.

Tegbe outlined four key propositions for the summit's delegates, advocating for diversification in energy strategies, the strategic importance of electricity grids, the recognition of affordability as a security issue, and the necessity for an orderly global energy transition. He highlighted Nigeria's significant gas reserves and the Electricity Act 2023 as pivotal reforms aimed at attracting investment and creating a competitive electricity market.

Tegbe noted that these reforms are being implemented under President Bola Tinubu's leadership and could serve as a model for other developing economies.
