Kwara Fire Service Attributes Fire to Power Surge in Ilorin

On Saturday, September 11, a fire incident occurred at No. 61 Ita Ogunbo area, Pakata Road, Ilorin, Kwara State, involving a building that comprised eight rooms and five shops. The Kwara State Fire Service, represented by Mr. Hassan Adekunle, confirmed that the fire was caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials within the affected shops. Firefighters arrived promptly and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. Preliminary investigations indicated that the power surge was the ignition source. CF Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, advised residents and business owners to utilize standard electrical installations and surge protectors, and to avoid leaving electrical appliances unattended during unstable power supply. The service emphasized the importance of equipping premises with portable fire extinguishers to tackle fires at early stages and urged the public to remain vigilant.
