Fire Destroys Home Appliances Market in Kano, Hundreds Affected

A devastating fire broke out at a home appliances market in Kano, starting around 10 PM on Thursday and raging until Friday morning. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire destroyed nearly 100 temporary shops, with losses estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of naira.

Kabiru Idri Muhammad, a trader affected by the incident, stated that virtually everything was burnt down, including valuable items. The Kano State Fire Service responded with 10 vehicles but could not determine the cause of the fire at the time.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire may have started in a salvage yard at Takumbo Market and spread to the upper floors of the Kanawa building. Alhaji Sani Ana, a director at the Kano State Fire Service, advised the public to take necessary precautions against fire outbreaks and to report incidents promptly.

The fire also affected the operations of DHL, a courier service company, and traders described the incident as the worst in the market's history.
