Nigeria Strengthens Ties with Sierra Leone Through Diplomacy

On July 13, 2026, Ambassador Ayo Luther Ogbomode, mni, presented his Letters of Credence to Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the President of Sierra Leone, during a ceremony held at the State House in Freetown. The event followed a warm audience where Ogbomode conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ogbomode reaffirmed Nigeria's unwavering commitment to strengthening the long-standing bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He expressed confidence in President Bio's leadership as he assumed the chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

President Bio acknowledged Nigeria's historical role and support during Sierra Leone's civil conflict and expressed appreciation for Nigeria's goodwill and continued support. The two leaders emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, education, and security cooperation.
