Saraki Declares No 2027 Presidential Run, Eyes 2031

Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, declared that he will not run for the presidency in the 2027 elections. He emphasized the importance of fairness in the political landscape, advocating for the southern region to complete its turn in leadership.

Saraki's decision is rooted in principles of political balance between the north and south of Nigeria. He stated that allowing the south to finish its term in 2023 is crucial before any northern candidate, including himself, contests in 2031.

Saraki expressed that his non-participation in the 2027 elections is to avoid disrupting the current political arrangement and to ensure that the southern region has the opportunity to lead for four years. He affirmed that he would consider running in 2031, provided he is in good health, and noted that the rotation of power should clearly favor the north in that election cycle.
