Presidency Assumes Control of Nigerian Safety Bureau

The Nigerian Presidency has taken over the supervision of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), as confirmed in a communication from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on March 5, 2026. This transition is part of a directive from the Attorney General of the Federation to amend the NSIB Establishment Act of 2022, which will reflect the new administrative arrangements.

The proposed amendments will be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative approval. The NSIB, established under Act No. 35 of 2022, replaces the former Accident Investigation Bureau and has a broader mandate that includes accident investigations across multiple modes of transport, unlike its predecessor, which was limited to the aviation sector.

Following this change, the NSIB will now operate under the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, which oversees five agencies, including the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
