Tinubu Moves Nigerian Safety Bureau to Presidency

President Bola Tinubu has made a significant decision to relocate the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) from the Ministry of Aviation to the Presidency, effective November 3, 2025. This decision overrides the stance of Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, who had previously argued for the bureau to remain under the ministry's oversight.

The relocation aims to ensure the bureau operates independently and efficiently, aligning with global best practices for accident investigations. The move is intended to remove current limitations imposed by the ministry's oversight, thereby improving transparency and public trust in the investigation process.

The decision was communicated through a letter from Tinubu's private secretary, Damilola Aderemi, and follows recommendations from Hadiza Usman, head of the Central Result Delivery Coordinating Unit. The restructuring is expected to enhance the bureau's ability to enforce safety regulations across the transport sector, including land, air, and maritime.
