Tinubu Approves National Health Technology Office in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office (NHTDAO) and appointed Dr. Obi Adigwe as the pioneer national coordinator.

This office will be located within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and is designed to serve as a meta-level national platform to coordinate Nigeria's digital health agenda. The NHTDAO will not replace existing statutory functions of relevant departments but will harmonize and empower public and private institutions across the health system.

The office is expected to set standards and connect operational aspects of the national digital health architecture. The National Council on Health is scheduled to approve the office in November 2025.

Dr. Adigwe, who is also the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, will leverage science and technology to drive major health projects, including a $300 million nanotechnology grant and an 18 million EU grant.

The steering committee for the NHTDAO includes notable figures such as Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and Mr. Olaniyi Yusuf.
