Tinubu Targets Youth Empowerment for Economic Growth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focusing on empowering Nigeria's youth with digital skills to attract investors and stabilize the economy. In a meeting at the State House, he received a delegation led by Mastercard's CEO Michael Miebach, who proposed training five million individuals in digital skills.

This initiative aims to enhance the participation of Nigeria's large informal small business sector in the global economy. Tinubu emphasized the importance of formalizing this sector to create opportunities for digital transformation, investment, and employment growth.

Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, highlighted the need for economic reforms to integrate credit payment systems, which include various loan types for individuals and small businesses. Miebach assured Tinubu of Mastercard's support in implementing these economic reforms and noted that the company has already created a framework to empower 40 million small businesses in Nigeria with digital skills.
