Ondo APC Faces Internal Strife Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State faces significant internal strife as power struggles threaten its unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the primaries for April 23 to May 30, 2026, requiring parties to submit digital membership registrations at least 21 days prior.

The APC must adopt either a direct primary or consensus method for candidate selection, but concerns persist that neither option favors candidates outside Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's camp. Tensions have escalated, particularly regarding the Ondo South senatorial district, following the appointment of Jimoh Ibrahim as a diplomat.

Aspirants are reportedly lobbying in Abuja for automatic tickets, complicating the governor's efforts to manage candidate interests. A recent APC stakeholders meeting in Odigbo Local Government Area highlighted resistance to the governor's preferred candidates, further intensifying the internal conflict.

The situation poses a significant burden on the governor as aggrieved members threaten to leave the party.
