Tension in Ondo APC Ahead of Upcoming Primaries

Tension has escalated in Ondo State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its primaries scheduled from May 18 to 20. Reports indicate an alleged influx of suspicious political thugs, raising fears of disruptions similar to those experienced during recent congresses.

The primaries will include elections for House of Representatives and State Assembly positions. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is reportedly at odds with party members over the return of certain aspirants, leading to a crisis within the party.

The APC national leadership has rejected a consensus list allegedly backing the governor, insisting on direct primaries instead. Residents in areas such as Owo, Akure, Idanre, Okitipupa, and Akoko Southwest have expressed concerns about the presence of unfamiliar individuals in their communities ahead of the primaries.

The Ondo State government has urged APC members to conduct themselves peacefully during the primaries, while the state police command has intensified security measures to maintain law and order.
