CAP Plc Advocates for Paint Safety Amid Lead Risks

Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc has urged Nigerians to prioritize safety when selecting paint for homes, schools, and workplaces, especially during International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2026, observed from October 18 to 24. The theme for this year is ‘From Detection to Prevention’.
CAP emphasized the importance of understanding product safety to prevent lead exposure, which poses significant health risks, particularly to children. The managing director and chief executive officer of CAP, Olalekan Aluko, stated that while consumers often consider color, finish, and cost, safety should be equally prioritized.
He called on manufacturers, retailers, painters, and building professionals to promote responsible product selection and support efforts to mitigate lead exposure. The World Health Organization (WHO) has indicated that there is no safe level of lead exposure, which can adversely affect multiple body systems, especially in children, impacting brain development, learning, and behavior.
