Pro-Democracy Icons Honored in Lagos for Their Struggles

On Wednesday in Lagos, pro-democracy icons such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and Chief Segun Ajibulu were honored for their significant roles in the struggle against military rule and the promotion of democracy in Nigeria. The event recognized the contributions of various distinguished Nigerians, including the late pro-democracy icons Adekunle Ajasin, Abraham Adesanya, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and Kudirat Abiola, among others.

Chief Segun Ajibulu, founder of the Segun Ajibulu Foundation, received the prestigious Hero of Democracy award for his sacrifices and efforts during the military era, where he covertly collaborated with democracy activists. The ceremony, organized by the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), highlighted the importance of grassroots mobilization and the courage of activists in shaping Nigeria's democratic journey.

Ayo Opadokun, a former NADECO General Secretary, commended Ajibulu as an unsung hero in the pro-democracy struggle.
