SERAP Demands Probe into ₦6.3 Billion Fund Diversion

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to urgently investigate the alleged diversion of ₦6.3 billion in constituency project funds. SERAP's letter, dated June 27, 2026, emphasizes the need for accountability and prosecution of anyone found responsible for the misappropriation of public funds.

The organization cites the 2022 annual report from the Auditor General, published on September 9, 2025, which identifies numerous irregularities, including payments made to private bank accounts without due process and contracts awarded without adequate documentation. SERAP warns that failure to address these allegations could lead to legal action to compel compliance.

The report highlights specific instances of mismanagement, including payments for projects that were not executed and inflated contract amounts, undermining public trust and violating the Nigerian Constitution.
