SERAP Demands Clarity on ₦1.3bn Allocation to Fictitious Council

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to clarify the allocation of ₦1.3 billion to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) as outlined in the 2026 Appropriation Act. SERAP has requested certified copies of documents related to this allocation and has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it, citing concerns over the legitimacy of the council, which the President has publicly stated is fictitious.

SERAP emphasized the constitutional duty of the National Assembly to scrutinize budget proposals and ensure accountability in public spending. They have requested a response within seven days, warning that failure to comply may lead to legal action to compel disclosure.

The organization aims to strengthen public confidence in the integrity of the appropriations process and promote transparency in the management of public resources.
