Four Die in Katsina Ramadan Alms Stampede; Probe Launched

On February 26, 2026, a tragic stampede occurred during a Ramadan alms distribution event led by philanthropist Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki in Kofar Guga Quarter, Katsina. The Katsina State Police Command, represented by Public Relations Officer Aliyu Abubakar, reported that they received a distress call at 9 PM regarding a large crowd gathering.

Upon arrival, police teams found that four individuals had succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent future occurrences.

The police urged philanthropists planning similar events to notify them in advance to ensure adequate security arrangements, emphasizing the importance of crowd control at charity events, especially following previous incidents across the country.
