Prof. Celestin Iwendi Nominated for IEEE Board of Governors

Prof. Celestin Iwendi, head of the Centre for Intelligent Things at the University of Greater Manchester, has been nominated as a candidate for the 2026 IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors.

This nomination signifies global recognition of his contributions to advancing responsible artificial intelligence research and fostering international collaborations. Iwendi expressed pride in representing the Centre and emphasized the importance of this role for the wider international research community.

He aims to enhance the impact of the IEEE Computer Society across the region, support student development, and strengthen Nigeria's presence in the global computing community. His priorities include expanding the student branch, improving member engagement, and creating practical programs that connect research with industry practices.

Iwendi has previously served as a board member of the IEEE Sweden Section and as a newsletter editor for the IEEE Computer Society Worldwide Election Committee 2024.
