Prominent Nigerian Lawmaker Barinada Mpigi Dies at 64

Barinada Mpigi, a prominent Nigerian lawmaker and member of the National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 64. His death was confirmed on Thursday.

Mpigi represented the River South East Senatorial District and was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Work. He was an indigenous member of the Tai Local Government Area within the Ogoni ethnic nation in Rivers State.

Mpigi previously served two terms in the House of Representatives, representing the Eleme, Tai, and Oyigbo Federal Constituency, before becoming a member of the 9th and 10th Senate. He remained an active legislator in the current assembly until his death.

Akin Alabi, a fellow member of the House of Representatives, expressed his condolences on social media, referring to Mpigi as a dear friend and wishing him to rest in peace.
