Abia Man Dies After Alleged Assault by Son in Property Dispute

Emmanuel Uchegbu, an elderly man, died after his son, Uchechukwu Uchegbu, allegedly assaulted him during a long-standing property dispute in Abia State. The conflict reportedly began when Uchechukwu attempted to convert family land for personal use, leading to repeated assaults on his father over the years.

The situation escalated when Uchechukwu forcefully claimed the land meant to be shared among the father and siblings, resulting in a critical injury to Emmanuel on January 1, 2026. Uchechukwu was briefly arrested on the same day but released, only to be re-arrested after his father's death on January 31.

The Abia State Police, represented by Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.
