Jalingo College Students Protest After Rape Incident

In the early hours of Monday, a female student was raped and injured during an attack on a hostel in Jalingo. The attackers, referred to as hoodlums, also stole students' phones and valuables, inflicting injuries, including cutting one of the victim's fingers.

The victim was taken to GSCN Hospital in the Mile 6 area for treatment. A students’ union official, speaking anonymously, indicated that this was the second attack on hostels within two weeks, with a previous incident involving theft of phones and valuables.

Following the first attack, students had complained to the school authorities, leading to a visit from the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, who promised improved security measures that were not implemented. In response to the latest attack, students protested at the college gate, demanding urgent intervention from the Taraba State Government and security agencies.

They also expressed concerns about the use of hostels located outside the college premises despite the availability of on-campus facilities.
