ProvidusUnity Bank Integrates Mastercard with Google Pay
ProvidusUnity Bank has announced that eligible customers can now use their Mastercard cards on Google Pay, expanding their digital payment options. This development allows Mastercard holders to add their cards to Google Pay for payments at compatible mobile devices and supported contactless terminals.
The initiative is part of the bank's ongoing digital payments journey, which began in 2021 with a partnership with Mastercard and Thales to introduce Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) tokenisation capabilities in Nigeria. In 2022, the bank advanced this initiative through a Tap-to-Pay project in collaboration with Mastercard, Interswitch, and Thales.
Deoye Ojuroye, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of ProvidusUnity Bank, stated that the initiative reflects the bank's investment in payment infrastructure. Elliott Sangoleye, Divisional Head, Digital Bank, noted that this integration simplifies online and contactless transactions while protecting sensitive card information.
Lanre Ogundare, Group Head, Card Business and Solutions, emphasized the importance of building infrastructure to support emerging payment technologies.
