PTDF Warns Scholarship Candidates Against Absconding
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has issued a warning to scholars regarding the risks of absconding abroad, commonly referred to as 'Japa'. Peter Egheneji, the Deputy Manager and Team Lead at the Port Harcourt Centre, emphasized that candidates must sign a bond committing to return to Nigeria after completing their studies. The screening process, which began on Tuesday and is set to conclude next week, included 503 master's and 240 PhD candidates.
The selection was based on academic performance, including O-level results and first-degree research proposals. Prof. Godwin Chukwu noted that the assessment process aimed to align candidates' academic backgrounds with the needs of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
