PWDAN Calls for Enhanced Measures Against Fake Medicines

The Pharmaceutical Wholesalers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (PWDAN), under the leadership of Chairman Pharm. Ogheneochuko Omaruaye, has urged for stronger traceability and technology-driven measures to combat the proliferation of fake and substandard medicines across Africa.
This call was made during a press conference on Tuesday, in anticipation of the 4th Thematic General Assembly of the African Pharmaceutical Distribution Association (APDA) and the PWDAN Conference 2026, scheduled for October 6–8 in Lagos. The conference will focus on "Advancing Pharmaceutical Distribution in Africa: Building Secure Supply Chains Against Falsified Medicines," and aims to gather various stakeholders including regulators, policymakers, and healthcare professionals.
Omaruaye emphasized that the issue of falsified medicines poses significant public health risks and highlighted vulnerabilities in the pharmaceutical supply chain. He noted that compromised products could lead to severe health consequences and economic losses.
The conference will address critical parameters such as warehousing standards and transportation conditions to ensure the integrity of pharmaceutical products.
