BPP Launches Digital Procurement Reform in Nigeria

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has unveiled a broad procurement transformation programme aimed at digitalization, professionalization, compliance, and strategic government spending. Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of the BPP, announced this initiative on Thursday at the 2026 BAVCCA/BPP Procurement Performance Conference in Abuja.

He described public procurement as a crucial instrument for Nigeria’s economic and infrastructural development, addressing concerns over transparency and accountability in public resource management. Adedokun, represented by Nasir Bello, the Director of Civil Infrastructure, stated that the BPP is implementing one of the most ambitious procurement modernization programmes in Nigeria's history.

A key component of the reform is the electronic government procurement system, which aims to automate procurement processes, reduce manual intervention, and enhance data reliability. Adedokun emphasized that government spending should stimulate domestic industries and create jobs, aligning with the Nigeria First policy to retain economic value within the country.
