Troops Rescue Five Kidnap Victims in Enugu Operation

On February 20, 2026, at 7 PM, troops from the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Southeast Nigeria responded to a distress call regarding a kidnapping attempt at the 9th Mile Axis within the 82 Division area in Enugu State. The call indicated that suspects affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) were attacking commuters traveling to Anambra State.

Upon arrival, the troops engaged the armed elements, utilizing superior firepower and tactical maneuvers to overwhelm the criminals. As a result, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding bush.

The operation successfully rescued five victims unharmed and recovered their vehicle intact, delivering a significant blow to the criminal network operating in the area. Following the operation, troops maintained aggressive patrols to prevent regrouping of the suspects and to reassure the community of their safety.
