Rainstorm Destroys 20 Houses in Plateau State Community

On Tuesday, a heavy rainstorm struck the Mandar Ward in Bokko Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the destruction of 20 houses and significant damage to farmlands. The storm occurred around 5 PM and was accompanied by strong winds that uprooted trees and blew off rooftops, leading to property damage worth millions of naira.

Bulu Ritji, a community member, confirmed the incident, stating that although no lives were lost, many families were displaced and lost essential items such as food, clothing, and valuables. Christoph Luka, a youth leader in the area, described the destruction as sad and appealed for immediate intervention from the Plateau State government and humanitarian organizations.

Mr. Sundai Abdu Deni, the Executive Secretary of PLASEMA, acknowledged that the rainstorm incident had not been reported to their office but assured that they would investigate.

The storm has exacerbated the plight of residents, forcing families to seek temporary shelter with neighbors.
