BUK Professor Condemns Price Hikes in Kano Market

Prof. Mainasara Yakubu Kurfi, a lecturer at Bayero University Kano and former head of the Department of Mass Communication, condemned the price hikes by traders in Kano, particularly in the aftermath of two separate fire outbreaks at the Singer Market.

Despite receiving sympathy and financial support from federal and state governments following the fire tragedy, traders have resorted to hoarding and inflating prices of essential goods.

Prof. Kurfi expressed concern that such profit-driven behavior undermines public trust and exploits citizens during a period meant for charity and community support.

He called for market monitoring by relevant government agencies to ensure relief funds are not misused and emphasized the importance of ethical business practices to maintain social harmony.
