Ranchers Bees Return to NPFL After 16-Year Absence

Ranchers Bees have successfully secured their return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after a 16-year absence, finishing at the top of the Nigeria National League (NNL) with 20 points from 11 matches. Their promotion was confirmed with a decisive 2-0 victory against Kebbi United FC on Wednesday.

Founded in 1974 and based in Kaduna, Ranchers Bees were once a respected side in Nigerian football, reaching the Nigerian Cup final in 1983 and lifting the WAFU Cup in 1989. However, financial strains and administrative issues led to their decline.

The club's revival began last year when Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq became a co-owner alongside Bello El-Rufai. Sadiq, who plays for Real Sociedad, aims to invest in grassroots football and improve the club's financial stability and squad strength.

Ranchers Bees will join a select group of privately run teams in the NPFL next season, alongside Ikorodu City, Barau FC, Kun Khalifat, and Remo Stars.
