Rangers International Chooses Abeokuta for NPFL Defense

Rangers International, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, have selected the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta as their temporary home ground for the upcoming season. They will host Katsina United on Sunday as part of their title defense.

The decision to move from Enugu was necessitated by ongoing renovation work at their home stadium. This relocation also allows the team, coached by Fidelis Ilechukwu, to acclimatize to the Abeokuta turf before their preliminary round match against Benin Republic’s AS Sobemap in the CAF Champions League scheduled for September.

Initially, Rangers had an agreement with Remo Stars to use the Ikenne stadium for their continental campaign, but after discussions with Ilechukwu and his technical crew, they opted for the MKO Abiola Sports Arena. Additionally, Shooting Stars will also utilize the Abeokuta venue for their CAF inter-club competition fixtures, adding to the stadium's busy schedule.

Rangers International secured their ninth NPFL title in May after defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 on the final day of the 2025/26 season.
