Kaspersky Warns of $18 Billion Cost from Ransomware Attacks on Global Manufacturers

Kaspersky, in collaboration with VDC Research, has released a new industrial forecast warning that ransomware attacks could potentially cost the global manufacturing sector $18 billion by 2025 if current trends continue. The report highlights a growing wave of cyberattacks targeting factory production plants and industrial systems, with threat actors shifting focus from data theft to full-scale operational disruption.

The manufacturing sector is particularly vulnerable due to its increasing reliance on digital processes, interconnected machinery, and outdated security protections. The report also reveals that the Middle East and Latin America lead in ransomware attacks detected in manufacturing organizations.

Jare Weiner, a research director at VDC Research, emphasizes the importance of partnering with proven cybersecurity vendors to mitigate financial losses and reputational damage.
