REA Advocates Unified Strategy for Nigeria's Electricity Access

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), under the leadership of Managing Director Dr Abba Abubakar Aliyu, has urged for a unified approach among various stakeholders to improve electricity access across Nigeria. This call was made during the official relaunch of the Off-Grid Stakeholder Coordination and Partnership Forum in Abuja.

Aliyu highlighted the necessity for stronger coordination to prevent project duplication and optimize resource use, especially as funding for the sector diminishes. He noted that an analysis of the 2024 and 2025 Federal Government budgets revealed multiple agencies involved in power-related projects, some of which are not traditionally seen as major power-sector institutions.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, represented by Chief of Staff Doyin Adelabu, acknowledged fragmentation as a significant challenge and announced the establishment of an Off-Grid Coordination Secretariat to enhance collaboration. Doris Uboh-Ogunkoya, Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund, emphasized the need for continuous coordination beyond periodic meetings.
