Peter Obi May Not Run for President After 2027

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), indicated in an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni that he might not pursue the presidency after the 2027 general elections. Obi explained that he believes the presidency will shift to the northern region in 2031, following the expected rotation of the presidency between the north and south of Nigeria.

He expressed concern that if he were to run again, it might be perceived as undermining this zoning arrangement. Obi recalled a previous response to a similar question posed by secondary school students, emphasizing that he does not anticipate running for president in 2031, as he would be 78 years old by then.

He stated that the likelihood of a southern candidate winning the next election is slim, and he does not foresee the situation changing until the 2027 elections.
