NLO Bans Green Beret FC for Two Seasons Over Assault

The Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) has imposed a two-season ban on Green Beret FC of Zaria due to a violent incident involving match officials during a game against Zamfara United on Friday. The match, held at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, ended in a 2-0 loss for Green Beret FC, which was overshadowed by the assault on the referees.

A viral video showed officials scrambling for safety as they were attacked by unidentified individuals, resulting in one referee sustaining serious injuries. Dr.

Olushola Ogunowo, the Chief Operating Officer of NLO, condemned the violence, stating it tarnishes the integrity of football. The NLO has declared the match a 3-0 victory for Zamfara United and has fined Green Beret FC a total of N1.5 million, which includes N1 million for violent conduct and N500,000 as compensation for the assaulted referee.

The club is required to provide personnel to assist referees within 48 hours.
