Atiku Urges Tinubu to Account for Refinery Failures

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, urged President Bola Tinubu to cease blaming past administrations for the failures of Nigeria’s refineries. Atiku stated that Tinubu should account for the substantial resources allocated to the refineries during his tenure.

He noted that the combined obligations of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries rose from approximately N4.52 trillion at the end of 2023 to N8.67 trillion by the end of 2024, an increase of about N4.15 trillion in just one year under Tinubu's leadership. Atiku criticized Tinubu for celebrating the supposed rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery in November 2024, claiming it was operating at 70% capacity, only to later label it a liability.

He demanded clarity on the expenditures and results from the refinery investments, emphasizing that leadership requires accountability for both successes and failures.
