Reintegrating GBV survivors back in society will help recovery – Emir of Minna

Emir of Minna, Umar Faruq Bahago, emphasized the importance of reintegrating survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) back into society to aid in their recovery. The Emir made this statement during a sensitization workshop organized by the Development Research Projects Centre (DRPC) in collaboration with the Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) and supported by the Ford Foundation.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the need to support GBV survivors and facilitate their reintegration into the community. The Emir highlighted that communities affected by banditry in Niger State must work together to give survivors a sense of belonging.

Various local government areas, including Paikoro, Shiroro, Munya, and Bosso, have been severely impacted by banditry, leading to numerous cases of kidnapping and GBV. The workshop also featured testimonies from survivors who recounted their harrowing experiences and called for compensation to alleviate their suffering.
