NEC Conference Focuses on Fiscal Federalism and Growth

The National Economic Council (NEC) recently concluded its second conference, themed "Removing Barriers to Fiscal Federalism, Sub-national Growth," aimed at enhancing state capacity for better contributions to Nigeria's economy. President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for fiscal governance reforms, particularly in implementing the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.

The NEC recommended that 12 states pass harmonized tax laws to address multiple taxation issues, urging 13 other states to expedite similar processes. The conference highlighted the importance of federal and state governments collaborating to manage conflicts and address infrastructure gaps.

Tinubu also called for increased social investment targeting vulnerable groups and emphasized the necessity of a strong partnership with the private sector. The NEC, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, remains a vital platform for policy coordination and strategic dialogue, with a focus on restoring confidence in Nigeria's economy through ongoing reforms.
