FG to Revamp Nigeria's Humanitarian Response Framework

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister Dr. Bernard Doro Boro, announced plans to overhaul the country's humanitarian response architecture during an interview in Abuja.

This initiative aims to align with the "Renewed Hope" agenda of President Tinubu. The new framework seeks to eliminate fragmented interventions and silo-driven programs that weaken efficiency and limit impact, particularly as 25 million Nigerians require assistance annually, with 60% living in multidimensional poverty.

The framework will establish a National Council for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to harmonize strategies across federal, state, and local government levels. It addresses significant challenges such as duplicative efforts, weak data-sharing mechanisms, and inconsistent financial structures.

The strategy includes strengthening the national social register to support cash transfer programs targeting approximately 8.3 million households. Minister Boro emphasized the need for sustainable political commitment, reliable funding, and credible data systems to ensure the successful execution of this humanitarian overhaul.
