Minister Darma Warns Contractors on Housing Project Delays

On May 22, 2024, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mu'taqha Darma expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Renewed Hope housing project in Katsina, warning that contractors who fail to meet their contractual obligations may face sanctions. He stated that contractors must formally request extensions if they cannot complete projects on time, as abandoning projects without notification violates contract terms.

Darma disclosed that a report detailing ongoing contracts, including award dates and current statuses, will be submitted to the ministry. He emphasized that contractors must notify the ministry of any circumstances preventing project completion within the agreed timeline.

The minister also assessed the quality of completed housing units and expressed confidence that 80-90% of housing units nationwide would be completed under President Bola Tinubu's administration. The project includes 250 housing units with various designs and payment options to accommodate different income levels.
