Renowned Engineer and Ex-ATBU VC Prof. Buba Garegi Bajoga Passes Away at 88

Prof. Buba Garegi Bajoga, a distinguished engineer and former Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), has died at the age of 88 in the United Kingdom. Prof. Bajoga had a notable academic career spanning several decades, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in 1968 and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York in 1972. He rose steadily through the academic ranks at ABU, eventually becoming a professor of Electrical Engineering in 1984. Prof. Bajoga played a pivotal role in the growth and evolution of ATBU, serving two terms as Vice-Chancellor from 1984 to 1994.

Beyond his contributions to the university system, Prof. Bajoga made significant impacts in Nigeria's telecommunications engineering sector, holding influential positions in organizations such as the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and the Nigerian Communications Commission. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State described the late professor as an internationally reputed academic and an illustrious son of Gombe State who dedicated his life to scholarship and public service. The Governor highlighted Prof. Bajoga's role in shaping the tertiary education sector in the state.
