Former UBA Chairman Chief Israel C. Ogbue Dies at 99

Chief Israel C. Ogbue, the former Chairman of UBA Plc, died at the age of 99.

Born on February 18, 1927, in Onicha Olona, Delta State, he began his professional journey in the Federal Civil Service and later studied in the United Kingdom. Ogbue had a notable career in the insurance sector, serving with distinction at NICON until his retirement in 1988.

He joined the UBA board in 2005 as a non-executive director and was appointed chairman in 2011, a role he held until his retirement in 2013. His leadership was characterized by strategic foresight and a commitment to strong corporate governance.

Ogbue was also a family patriarch, being the father-in-law of UBA Group Chairman, Mr. Toni Elumelu, and the father of Dr.

Awele Elumelu. UBA Group expressed heartfelt condolences to his family, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to Nigeria's corporate landscape.
