Rep member asks Igbo leaders to resist ‘systemic discrimination’ by FG, Lagos

Hon. Obi Aguocha, a representative from North South federal constituency, has called on Igbo leaders to resist the "systemic discrimination" faced by the Igbo community in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos.

Aguocha highlighted instances where Igbo street names were replaced with Yoruba names, and properties owned by Igbos were labeled illegal and threatened with demolition. He criticized the lack of Igbo representation in key government bodies, such as the newly inaugurated National Census Commission, despite the Igbo population being estimated at 30% of Nigeria.

Aguocha also condemned the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, while known bandits and terrorists operate freely in other parts of the country. He urged the Southeast caucus in the National Assembly and Ohanaeze Ndigbo to address these issues and ensure equitable representation for the Igbo community in national appointments.

Aguocha emphasized the need to confront these threats to the constitutional rights of all Nigerians.
