REPORT: Nigerians dying daily in South Africa as anti-migrant group blocks hospital access to foreigners

Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has reported that Nigerians are dying daily in South Africa due to an anti-migrant group blocking hospital access to foreigners. NUSA President Smart Nwobi stated that members of Operation Dudula stationed at hospital entrances are demanding identity cards, preventing foreigners without South African citizenship documents from receiving treatment.

Even naturalized citizens who can speak the local language are being turned away. Nwobi highlighted that Nigerians are resorting to detrimental health practices to avoid being assaulted or killed, with many afraid to go to public hospitals.

The group Operation Dudula has been accused of targeting foreign nationals, especially traders, as elections approach. The South African Department of Health has condemned these actions, emphasizing the importance of providing essential healthcare services to all individuals.
