Reps Demand Financial Statements from Accountant-General

The House of Representatives' Public Accounts Committee has mandated the Accountant-General and Auditor-General of the Federation to prepare and submit consolidated financial statements for audit covering the period from 2023 to 2025. This resolution follows an investigative hearing concerning a payment of N9.8 billion to a vendor associated with the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) for 2024.

The committee expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Accountant-General's failure to comply with statutory financial reporting obligations, as outlined in the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which requires the federal government to publish audited consolidated financial statements no later than six months after the end of the financial year. The deadline for submission of these financial records is set for October 2026, as the committee continues to scrutinize public financial management practices.
