Nigerian House of Representatives Launches Probe into Airports and Seaports Concessions

The House of Representatives in Nigeria has commenced an investigation into the operations of concessionaires at federal airports and seaports spanning the period from 2006 to 2025. The probe seeks to assess compliance with safety standards, revenue generation, operational efficiency, and governance practices at air and seaboard terminals nationwide.

An ad hoc committee has been inaugurated to oversee the investigation, with Speaker Abbass Tajudeen emphasizing the need to ensure that the federal government and Nigerians derive maximum value from the port terminal operations. The investigation is driven by the necessity to enhance efficiency, attract private sector investments, modernize infrastructure, improve service delivery, increase government revenue, and reduce the operational burden on the state.

The committee's scope includes examining concession agreements, assessing revenue flows remitted to the federal government, reviewing compliance with contractual and regulatory safety obligations, and identifying challenges within the concession framework. Various stakeholders, including concessionaires and regulatory agencies like NIMASA and the Nigerian Customs Service, will be engaged in the investigative process.
