Reps Committee Approves 2025 Budget for Polytechnics

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics adopted the 2025 budget performance report for federal polytechnics across Nigeria, pledging to foster closer collaboration with institutions to tackle longstanding challenges in the sector. The decision followed a budget defense session attended by rectors and top officials from federal polytechnics at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

Chairman Fuad Laguda highlighted the critical role of polytechnics in Nigeria's industrial and technological development, noting their contribution to the middle-level manpower necessary for national growth. He reiterated the need for sustained investment in the polytechnic system, stressing that technological advancement cannot be achieved without adequate funding and properly equipped technical institutions.

The committee also addressed the delay in budget document submissions by some institutions, urging Registrar Adebayo Adegbiji to provide relevant documents within seven days. The committee's adoption of the budget performance report is part of a broader legislative effort to enhance accountability and the utilization of public funds in the polytechnic subsector.
