N4 Trillion Debt: Nigerian Contractors Await Payment Deadline Amid Protests - Deputy Speaker Intervenes

Local contractors in Nigeria are set to know the fate of N4 trillion owed to them for capital projects executed in 2024, with a deadline set for Monday. The contractors staged a protest at the Ministry of Finance, accusing the government of delayed payments.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, intervened to broker peace between the contractors and the government officials. The contractors alleged that despite promises of payment within 48 hours, they have only received piecemeal payments, leading to ongoing tensions and mistrust.
