Reps Summon Accountant-General Over Non-Compliance Issues

The Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly has issued a final summons to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, due to his repeated failure to honor invitations to submit required documents for the committee's oversight functions. The committee, chaired by lawmaker Bamidel Salam from Osun, expressed displeasure over Ogunjimi's non-responsive attitude and warned that continued refusal to cooperate undermines transparency in public financial management.

The committee has sent several letters to Ogunjimi's office in recent months, seeking documents and requesting his appearance, all of which have gone unanswered. The summons requires Ogunjimi to appear in person on July 13, 2026.

The committee also extended invitations to six ministries and agencies whose chief accountants allegedly ignored previous invitations. Salam emphasized the importance of cooperation from the Accountant-General, who occupies a strategic position in Nigeria's public financial management architecture, and stated that the committee is determined to enforce legislative oversight.
